SB 810 - California Single payer sent to Assembly
trickymaster, 17:10h
Yes, California has passed the single payer system through the Senate and has sent it to the Assembly.
More information at California OneCare
California has already passed two other single payer health-care legislation only to see how they were vetoed by the governor. California can and will do what Washington D.C couldn't. Once again, it will be the pioneer that shows that Single-Payer is the better way.
SB 810 has to be signed by August 2010 by the full Assembly it will be sent to the Governor. We will have elections at the same time which could decide over whether we can override another Governor veto. Democrats just need two more seats to do so. We couldn't have a better time to pass a bill establishing a Single Payer health-care system, so shortly after federal health care reform has failed, premiums are rising and people are losing their health coverage when they lose their jobs.
I was surprised as I did not expect that the United States would go the same ways as Canada. But it can't hurt :-)

More efficiency will make health care more affordable!
trickymaster, 15:10h
PBS has created a very important chart regarding our health expenditures, compared to other national health care systems: Link
If our politicians would have seen that, they would know that it is not the system that needs to change but that we need to make health care more efficient though totally different measures.
We have to figure out to save money on ambulatory, hospital, and nursing home care. But we are permanently walking around reducing profits and administrative costs. Yes, you would save money, but you would save much more money when you

Pharmacies:
- Negotiate prices for drugs and medical appliances. In addition to that, citizens should be free to buy medical drugs from any country. The government could actively set up a system (similar to Amazon) that helps citizens to compare domestic and foreign drug prices and to buy foreign drugs safely.
- Reduce the ambulance to those cases where it is really needed. A doctor could take those emergency calls and evaluate whether the ambulance is needed or the patient can help him/herself. When the ambulance is needed, the doctor could figure out whether stationary care is needed or whether they can treat the person at home. Treatment at home would save a lot of money, too.
- Invest in free preventive care so that people don't end up in the hospital in the first place. In addition to that there might be a lot of ways to save money in hospitals and nursing homes. Just take a look at the best ranking hospitals and nursing homes in U.S. News and apply that to all cities. The amount of hospitals would reduce and in exchange create one better, larger, comprehensive medical facility full of experts.

A BROKEN SYSTEM!
trickymaster, 16:10h
We don't need health care reform!
We desperately need government reform before we can pass something that truly helps all American people. Senate has to get rid of the unlimited filibuster! It stalls anything and especially the right of representation of the American people. There is NO way that we are going to see a public option under the current system.
The Senate must pass a constitutional amendment that limits or gets rid of the filibuster. Every democratic nation has strict rules for how long a debate can continue. The last twenty years, we have faced more filibusters than in the last two hundred years.
The system is broken, change is desperately needed. No taxation without representation.
